Archies American Diner... I can smell the burgers cooking as I type this. I have frequented this establishment on many occasions. Whenever I plan a trip to Monterey / Pacific grove. I always stop. I love the atmosphere of the place, back in the day my grandad would have called it a joint, and not in a bad way. I mean you walk in and you see a lot of nostalgic replica advertisement signs and other memorabilia, in my opinion it fits the mood of the monterey of yesteryear, back before it was a popular tourist spot. I like the fact that you get a big sheet of butcher paper on your table with a bucket of crayons! My kids love it, they draw pictures play tic tac toe and just concentrate on being kids! My wife and I enjoy the view, we always enjoy the family time. I say if you are looking for a Mc. Donalds type place then Archies is not for you. But if you are looking for some of Californias BEST burgers then you have found the right place!! Awesome burgers! Awesome service. and a view that can't be beat! I highly recommend the Monterey Burger!!!

I was in CA for the MotoGp and tripped over Archie's while wandering around the Aquarium area. Great burgers with great outdoor seating to people watch!

The inside is inexplicably decorated in a hideous red-white-and-blue motif (red checkered plastic tablecloths, blue window trim, a giant gumball machine at the door ("art"?), "We can do it" Rosie the Riveter poster reproduction (Huh? In a place with bazillion-dollar views of the ocean??)). Then comes the food. The coffee was so bad I threw it out (and I was desperate by that point). The omelet I ordered tasted like it was made the day before, frozen, and thawed. The veggies inside the omelet and the home fries were swimming in grease. When I asked if the omelet had been made with egg beaters, I got a "YEAH". No waitstaff = no accountability. We left feeling like we had eaten two grease bombs. The cranky kids being force-fed by their cranky parents looked about as unhappy as we were. Go to First Awakenings instead - right next door.
